Edward

As soon as the land started becoming more familiar, I knew I was back in Forks. I didn't pause but continued running till I reached the highway. Then I stopped and shoved my hands in my pockets, settling back for a lazy stroll. I knew Bella wasn't going to be out of school for hours yet so I would have to be patient and kill some time. I sighed. The monster inside of me… well outside now I guess, reared, eager for kill. It wanted me to rip the wall of the school off kill anything that moved. But I didn't. I wanted to play with Bella, however boring that may be, before I killed her. I wanted her to smile until her smile was forced to give way to screaming. I wanted her to feel my betrayal.

I wasn't doing this because of anything she'd done. She was completely innocent in fact. But she was standing between me and my freedom. If I wanted to be free of this ridiculous life in Forks then I was going to have to get rid of her. I was going to get rid of all the memories in this place.

I caught my face in the mind of Mr. Stanly as he drove past. My smile was a little bit scary but I had definitely been spot on about the skinny jeans. And the ray bans made them ten times as wicked. Plus they hid my red eyes.

It would be fun to take them off and scare people but I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself. I wasn't looking to die by hand of the evil paper skinned people. There was just too much fun shit to live for.

Jacob

I needed time to ponder this out. The only problem was that Quil had told me to hurry. So whatever was going to happen was going to happen soon. I leaned my forehead against the cool windowpane and tried to think.

Cullen was about to do something that he would regret. So what could Edward ever possibly regret? I closed my eyes. Edward was perfect right? He never did anything wrong, never got in trouble… Up until now that is. So hadn't he already done something to regret? But Quil had also said that it would destroy him. So what would destroy Edward? Well the only thing I had ever seen him truly care about was Bella, except he might care about me… So killing one of us could destroy him right? Well he wouldn't kill me. I had heard way too many jokes about smelling bad and tasting gross to ever think he would kill me... So if Edward did go rouge he would probably end up killing the most delectable creature on the planet to him. Bella.

Shit. Why did it always have to be her? And according to my dream… did I really care?

Well I was going to save her anyway. Because she was weak and pathetic and couldn't fend for herself… Whoa, where did that come from? I had never thought badly of Bella before, she was perfect.

"Yeah, real perfect," the little voice in my mind whispered. "Even though she's defenseless and it's annoying to always have to go save her, and she's so weak that she couldn't even handle breaking up with a leech so she did tons of suicidal shit to hear his voice that you had to rescue her from. Plus you stuck by her through all the shit and she wouldn't even return your feelings for her, saying instead that she still loved him way more than she could ever love you. Yeah, that's real divine of her."

"SHUT UP!" I punched the wall and my hand made a huge dent and a crack that ran all the way to the ceiling.

"Jacob? Are you okay?" Oh, shit, Dad.

"I'm good."

"Don't hurt the house." How had that sly old fox known?

"Right."

I would get moving if Edward had been going to attack the school. I was positive that that wasn't his style. All I had to do was show up at Bella's school just before it ended (She didn't have a cell phone as far as I knew, and if she did I didn't have her number so I couldn't call her and warn her.) and trail them to wherever they were going. Then I would kick Edward's sparkly ass and hopefully set him strait again. If that didn't work… Well… I just hoped that it wouldn't come to plan B. But if it did… I might have to let what was supposedly inside bubble to the surface. I groaned. I had totally just accepted the main issue of my dream. I wanted to beat myself with something. This was making me crazy. I hated plan B.

Edward

It was time. The shelter that the trees gave me had been just enough to keep the students from seeing me and now they were filtering out through the double doors. I kept a sharp lookout for Bella, trying to pick her out from the throng without using my mindreading. Instead I took a huge whiff of the air around me. She wasn't too hard to discern. Her smell greeted the newly awakened beast and it lunged inside of me as if it wanted to jump out and tear her to shreds without me. But I held it back because the beast knew not of the savory pleasure of taking the life of someone important to you. But I did. And I was pretty damn ready to watch her face contort from a loving smile into a scream of agony. This was gonna be fun.

Bella was walking towards her ancient, hideous truck now and she came into view just as I was about to sneak around to go find her. I grinned with determination and anticipation.

The clouds still covered me as I walked into the parking lot of Forks High School towards Bella. She didn't notice me at first, leaning over the hood of her car instead with what looked like a chem book, studying for finals probably.

"You don't have to study so hard you know." I laughed as she jumped when I came up behind her. But then her face lit up like I had just made her day. Which was ironic, considering what was about to occur.

"Hi!"

"Hey. I was wondering… can I steal you tonight?" She giggled. I was making a conscious effort to make it sound completely natural and to not pounce on her here and now. She smelled wonderful especially when I let myself breathe her in.

"Well since it doesn't matter how bad I do on my finals and tonight's a takeout night for my dad… Sure!" She blushed at her own enthusiasm and the blood swirling beneath her cheeks made my throat burn. I took her hand and quickly swung her onto my back so I wouldn't have to look.

"No car?" I could feel her tremor. I frowned, no longer amused by Bella's fragility. It was just plain annoying.

"No." I took off into the trees, with the smell of her adrenaline pumped blood in my nose and the sound of her racing heart in my ears.

Jacob

I had to get to school before Edwards did so I would have time to mask my scent. I pulled out my earbuds and dropped the iPod onto the bed before pounding down the stairs.

"Hey Dad, I'm leaving!" I shouted even though the kitchen was only one wall away.

"Already?"

"Yeah."

"Well have fun."

"Yeah." I stripped, right there in the entry way and tied my clothes around my ankle. Then I sprang out the door and phased mid-spring. Then they were upon me.

"Hey Jake!" Came Quil's voice.

"Jake!" exclaimed Seth. "So glad you're here man!"

"Jacob," acknowledged Sam.

I blocked out their onslaught of voices as best I could and focused on shielding my thoughts as best I could. I focused on the problem at hand with the pack: Victoria. We were still hunting the red haired witch and that's what I was going to use for my cover story to go save Bella, if all went well.

"Do we know where she is?" I asked, focusing my whole mind on that one question. It wasn't too hard, I had been practicing Blocking my thoughts for months. I hated people inside my head.

"Right to business." I heard Jared grumble.

Sam gave him the evil eye and answered. "We know the general area. Her trail leads south towards Seattle but it stops right before it hits the city. That's where I want us to go.

Shit! That was the exact opposite of the way I wanted to go.

"Jacob? Do you have a problem with my orders?" Double shit.

I scrambled for a second, while the pack eyed me curiously. "No… well yes actually. If her trail stops, couldn't it have been a false trail? If it wasn't she would have kept going right? So I just thought that we should check north too, considering who she wants."

"Nice Jacob!" wooed Seth, always the kiss butt.

"Wow, since when was Jacob smart?" laughed Embry and Paul together.

"Or he could be completely wrong," scowled Leah, always the sour one.

"I must admit that he could very well be correct." Sam said with a hint of reluctance. "Since it was your idea, you can pick who you want to go with you north."

With me? Aww shit. "Umm Quil and Seth." Like two young soldiers they would obey their general and I could get rid of them easily. "Let's go."

We raced through the forest and as we did the voices of the others faded  until we couldn't hear them any more. Then I spoke to Quil and Seth. "Since Victoria is after Bella, here is what we are going to do. I want both of you guys to go to her house incase Victoria decides to ambush her there and I'll stalk Bella at the school. If Victoria shows up contact me, and I'll do the same for you guys." They nodded and sped off.

Finnally. I turned towards the school but I heard footsteps behind me. I spun around snarling at the new threat and reeled back at the smell that hit my nose. It was the Cullen clan. And they were looking for Edward.
